thankfulness.

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Colossians 2:6-7 NIV

“… overflowing with thankfulness.”

I was at youth group last night, feeling absolutely exhausted. It’s been a long couple of weeks, and by Friday, I was spent. Spent– and knowing I still had two assignments due, a mound of copyediting work to wade through, and an over-due blog post to write.

Don’t get me wrong: I love what I do (even the schoolwork… most of the time). But with it all building up on top of my fragile emotions, it was definitely feeling like too much.

Maybe that’s why this one phrase stood out to me from the Bible reading we were looking at. Overflowing with thankfulness.

Of all the things I’ve been feeling at the moment, thankfulness hasn’t exactly been in the mix. It’s all too easy when the world is spinning around me to forget the blessings in my life. To be too distracted to be thankful.

But when I think about it, I have a lot to be thankful for. This afternoon, I came up with a few things.

My mum, who has been so strong this week.

The two friends who, although I haven’t talked to them much, told me they read my blog. It meant a lot to me.

WhatsApp video calls with my dad.

The sunrise I walk out of my gate to each morning.

Friends who understand me.

So this week, I’m going to remember to continue to live my life in Christ, even when it’s hard. To be overflowing with thankfulness.
