We don’t have too many photos hanging up around our house, but these ones are featured on the wall in my parents room. They’re stunning photos. My dad especially loves the ones of mum with each of us kids: he says they capture our individual personalities.
I look at these photos, and I remember the night we took them. It was Mum’s birthday, and we were in Ermera, Timor-Leste.

To me, the photos seem almost ethereal. It was a beautiful night and a very special time for us as a family. But the truth is, the day as a whole was a difficult one. We were still easing out of the tension and sadness as we climbed the hill to watch the sunset from the foot of the cross.
As we walked up, we came up with a word for each letter of the alphabet to describe Mum. I’m sure we have them written down somewhere; I’ll have to find the list for you again, Mum.
I look at these photos, and I remember the sadness of the morning. But I also remember the joy of the evening, as we celebrated Mum. I look at the photos, and I think of how strong my mum is. I love and admire her so much.
Your birthday looks a little bit different this year, Mum. In some ways, there is still sadness, as Dad can only be with us over Zoom. But there is still so much joy. We love you immensely, Mum. Thank you for all you do for us. You are increfible. I hope you enjoy us spoiling you today.
Love,
True Blue x

August 25, 2020 at 9:22 pmIt was just during a bit of a stressful period, and we were all a little stretched and tense with each other that day. It ended up a lovely memory though ❤️
